New Song and Video

Dear friends,

I am happy to share the latest release from Blå Tolkningar / Blue Renditions - a collaborative project between multi-instrumentalist Johan Ludvig Rask and myself.

At its heart, this is a cover project where we take classic Swedish songs and evergreens and re-style them in a darker indie vein. Our latest release takes on "Visa vid midsommartid,"  from 1946, a much-beloved traditional song, especially at this time of year.

Translated into English by myself and performed by Johan and me, "Midsummer Song" is officially out on all music streaming platforms as of today! The full music video has also just dropped on YouTube.

A Note on the Visuals: Taming a Strange Technology

A note on the visuals:

Being a curious explorer type who has created and edited quite a few music videos over the years, it was impossible for me to not try my hand at the new generative animation tools that have emerged recently.

It is an utterly strange technology, and one that requires quite a bit of work to tame artistically. Whilst generative AI is a major "No No" for some and "just another tool" for others, I expect it will be a subject for debate and critique for quite some time yet. As it should be—there is much to unpack here.

That discussion aside, rest assured that the song itself was produced with painstaking human effort only...
