Thomas Feiner and Johan Ludvig Rask have recorded the first-ever English version of the beloved "Idas sommarvisa" – Ida’s Summer Song. Composed by Georg Riedel and with original lyrics by one of Sweden’s most cherished authors of children’s literature, Astrid Lindgren, the song tells of a gentle, imaginary figure who ushers in summer and banishes winter.
In today’s colder, harsher world, the song’s message resonates on a symbolic level. Astrid, a lifelong advocate for the well-being of children, once stated in a speech: “The characters of our future statesmen and politicians are formed before the age of five. It is terrifying, but it is the truth.” That yesterday’s victims can become tomorrow’s perpetrators, and that trauma so often begets trauma, remains both a mystery and a tragic fact of human nature.
We live in a bewildering landscape of complexity and conflict, but most of us strive to do good when we can. And yet leaders or movements that dehumanise "others" and call for their destruction drive us, time and again, into winter and woe.
For almost four decades, Ida's Summer Song has been sung by all Swedish children at the close of every school year. Translated to English by Fred Lane, it was selected to represent one of Sweden's most beloved songs in the EU-songbook.
This is Ida's Summer Song, reshaped into a darker acoustic indie piece – a battle cry for reason and happier childhood for all. The song is the third single from the project Blue Renditions (Blå tolkningar), where Feiner & Rask reimagine Swedish ballads and hymns with a darker, more contemplative tone.

Previously only announced on social media here's a reminder that “Remember" – a father/daughter duet performed by THOMAS FEINER & ALTHOUGH, ALINA is out now.
